Imagine if the Rays packed up Tropicana Field and Marshawn Lynch T Shirts rebuilt it inanother city. That's what a minor league owner did with his ballpark a century ago.

Venice Tigers owner Eddie Maier spent $125,000to constructa new ballpark in Venice, Calif.in 1913. His sizable investment produced a stunning facility but disappointing crowds.Maier kept hearing buzz about Vernon, Calif., acity 18 miles away that allowed alcohol sales, a rarity in Los Angeles County at the time.

Halfway through the 1915 season, with a struggling team and dwindling attendance, the frustrated owner had enough of Venice.

"Maier dismantled the entire ballpark and re-a sembled it in Vernon. Even the gra s was cut up Michael Dickson Jerseys and transplanted," the book California Baseball: From the Pioneers to the Glory Years described. "Carpenters numbered every piece of lumber, disa sembled the grandstands, cut the gra s, rolled it into strips and put everything back Seattle Seahawks Jerseys together in Vernon." The thorough proce s cost $75,000.

The remade ballpark wasattached to a tavern.

"The left-field area of Vernon's Maier Park featured an entrance to Doyle's Thirst Emporium, which boasted a 100-foot-long counter. Vernon left fielder Je s Stovall was known to step into the joint for a drink between innings," theLos Angeles Times reported.

Maier's bold move paid off. The Vernon Tigershad better results than the Venice Tigers did both on the field and at the gate.
